Millenium Bridge London 2003 and Bristol Floating Harbour 1988

Millenium Bridge 2003
joiner photo 1988
ghost
A lot of the old pictures on my walls were taken with pre-digital cameras. The image of Brstol Floating Harbour 1988 was taken with a Minox ML and was one of first pictures I took when I moved from Clifton in the same year to Hotwell Road (now Harbourside) I made the Joiner Photo a few months later and it's been on the wall ever since. I have been gradually copying the pre-digital prints and storing them on the hard drive of my computer, most of my slides are now in storage and will have to tackle scanning them at a later date. I have been taking slides since the mid-seventies so that's a lot of slides to sort through.

Gower walk 2003

Gower SW Wales
Gower SW Wales
Weston sea wall circa 1977
The last time I was in the Gower SW wales, I took these photos. Both have been colour modified in Photoshop, the original images where taken on a Nikon Coolpix 5000 in black & white mode. In the days when I used darkroom technique this would have been the equivilent of using a blue toner. I'm not a big fan of photo manipulation myself, prefering the subject and natural lighting to effect the picture and exposure control for dramatic effect. The Weston sea wall image was taken some time in 1977 using said darkroom technique. The final print was then treated with blue toner.

Bristol floating harbour 2004

Bristol floating harbour 2004
I guess I am lucky... I watch scores of people stop outside our flat on overcast days, take a few snaps then back in their car's and drive away. Of course it's the same view for us on day's like that... but then the clouds clear and there is a special quality to the light around about sunset picking out, what I think, Bristol best features...like the parish church of St. Mary Redcliffe in the distance, described by Queen Elizabeth I as the finest parish church in all England.
